LEVA is starting a new activity. We are going to recognize individuals and companies that have been important in the development of the electric bicycle industry more or less every newsletter.
Being westerners, we know more about what has happened in the USA and EU. But we respect and look for chances to recognize anyone worthy. Send me your suggestions: ed@levassociation.com
October 2025: Ahead of Their Time Award (ATTA)
Dr. Frank Jamerson PhD was working for General Motors on the processing of rare earth magnets and NiMH batteries in the 1980s. He followed these interests by publishing annual and biannual reports on the state of the electric bike industry, titled Electric Bikes World Wide Reports, from 1994 to 2018. We have lost contact with him and suspect that he has passed away in his 90’s.
Suzanne Bruesch was given an assignment for her University studies to invent a word in English and see the people who are concerned with that industry or product adopt it as normal professional vocabulary: Pedelec. This occurred in the 1990’s. Suzi is still with us.
Lee Iacocca of automotive industry fame “retired” and started EV Global motors in 1996. He inspired many and broke the ground for many in our industry. Ultimately, EVG failed due to being too early. He passed away in 2019.
More next week.
